Academic Engagements

In addition to consulting, Mike has accepted a number of academic engagements.

Mike currently consults with the University of Sydney, where he is involved with the University’s new Global Executive MBA degree, launched in February 2010.

Mike also consults with the Australian Graduate School of Management, AGSM, and the Australian School of Business, ASB, at the University of New South Wales.

University of Chicago

Mike was a Professor at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business for three years, from 1998 to 2000. As Faculty Chair of the school’s Leadership Effectiveness and Development (LEAD) program, he designed and then ran a coaching-intensive, year-long, team-based leadership development program not before seen at a top tier business school.

While at Booth, Professor Jenner:

  • Was ranked #1 out of 178 faculty teaching at the business school
  • Recorded the highest ever individual course ranking of 4.83 on a five-point scale
  • Won the Phoenix Award for the 1999/2000 academic year. The Phoenix Award is presented annually by second year MBA students to the faculty member who “in addition to classroom responsibilities, has greatly enriched the learning experience of students through voluntary and active involvement in the extracurricular and community activities of the Class of 2000”
University of Sydney

As part of his engagement with the University of
Sydney’s Global Executive MBA, Mike:

  • Designed the feedback system that runs throughout the degree, providing students with specific peer feedback on their real time interpersonal strengths and areas for development during each of the degree’s five residential modules
  • Designed and ran the skill-building components within the degree’s Leadership Module, building students’ capabilities at providing effective coaching and giving value-added feedback
  • Designed and ran Breaking Boundaries, the major component of student orientation. The EMBA students complete a series of competitive team tasks followed by facilitated debriefs to identify areas of greater and lesser effectiveness at a team and an individual level. With multiple tasks being undertaken, students have the opportunity to try out, and get feedback on, new behaviours so as to increase their knowledge of, and skill at, effective teamwork through the day.

For the ASB, Mike designed and ran the seminar ‘Encouraging Class Participation’ as part of the induction process for new and returning instructors teaching within the AGSM. The seminar received a ranking of 4.5 on a five-point scale.

Mike also teaches the courses ‘Managing People and Organisations’ and 'Managerial Skills’ within the AGSM’s Graduate Diploma in Management where he has received an aggregate evaluation of 4.6 on a five-point scale.
